Febey Hunt was the eight-year-old step-daughter of Alice Hunt, who was tried for witchcraft at St. Osyth, Essex, in 1582. Febey testified in court that her mother
had two familiar spirits shaped "like horses, the one white, the other black". The framing text on the tapestry is reproduced from the original St. Osyth
witch-trial pamphlet documenting her mother's trial.
The drawings are the artist’s own original sketches, drawn in a childlike manner and blown up to size.
